What’s Inside Plum Kernel Oil
Plum kernels come from the pits left after pressing French Ente plums for prunes. The seeds are cold pressed and lightly refined, yielding a clear oil that keeps a whisper of warm, nutty aroma without any added fragrance.
Chemically it’s a balanced mix: roughly 65–70% oleic acid for cushion, 20% linoleic for quick absorption, and a supporting cast of palmitic and stearic acids that give body. The natural vitamin E content supports stability so it won’t sour after weeks riding in a pack or glovebox.
Because it starts as a food-grade crop and sees minimal processing, the oil stays low in irritants and free from solvents. We get the glide we want without leaning on synthetics.
Why We Formulate with Plum Kernel Oil
- Adds soft, lasting slip. The oleic-rich base lays down a smooth film that resists drag but never feels greasy.
- Guards against oxidation. Naturally occurring tocopherols and phenolics help the balm shrug off heat and time, backing up our other antioxidants.
- Moisturizes without shine. Linoleic acid soaks in fast, leaving lips conditioned with a low-sheen finish instead of a glossy coat.
- Plays nice with waxes. Its midweight texture blends cleanly with beeswax and jojoba esters, reinforcing structure while keeping the stick flexible.
Plenty of lip balms default to cheap seed oils that oxidize or feel slick. Plum kernel oil brings a worked-in feel that matches the rest of the formula—steady, breathable, and built for long days outside.
Field-Ready Performance
The oil stays fluid in the cold but won’t run when temperatures rise, so the stick survives pocket heat, glovebox swings, and shop benches without sweating or separating.
Because it’s non-polar and low-residue, it won’t swell plastics or gum up finishes. Use it on a wind-chapped face, then handle binoculars, camera gear, or a truck console without leaving an oily print.
